In its simplest form, a loophole is a thin vertical opening. Also called an arrowslit, this type of piercing found in ancient fortification was made for archers to launch arrows. Loopholes are essentially one-way windows. You are on the inside looking out. The basis of our project is to reverse the experience. By mimicking these openings and turning them into peepholes, it is now the outsider that will be looking in. Our photographic work is an important aspect of this project. The loopholes will be created with thin lightboxes containing fragments of our photographic images. Our hope is that these loopholes of Griffintown’s built space will evoke the interior depth of each site and bring light to what goes unnoticed in Griffintown.
