L’espace quotidien
L’espace quotidien is a the result of a production experiment that took place in Griffintown – a historical and largely disputed quarter of Montréal, Canada. Griffintown is positioned between an industrial past and an uncertain future – between extensive redevelopment and natural degradation. The setting not only serves as a backdrop for the interactions between two actors, it also emerges on screen as a kind of spatial presence. Physical space becomes a third character in the film and is positioned directly between the two individuals depicted. Specific conditions were set for production of the film, which draws from traditions in narrative cinema whilst also building on the existing tensions between what constitutes a staged re-enactment and a documented event. It is a film about the spaces people do their living in, but also about the space that exists between each human being.
